Hydration Concerns for Tennis Players
Team Southern Captures the 2008
Intersectional Title in Shreveport
Three of Louisiana’s top players in the nation were selected to
represent the South at Intersectionals in Shreveport. Lauren Mira,
Garrett Brasseaux and Robert Verzaal were on the team that put the
South into the championship, which they won against Southern
California. Currently, both Robert and Garrett are in the top 60 in
the national standings; 42 and 52 respectively. Lauren, who
suffered an ankle sprain during the event, is at 40 in the national
standings. The LTA Board and Junior Tennis Council congratulate
these three outstanding players for their selection to the
Intersectional team.
Meyers and Simon win the Gold at the
14s Zonals Team Championships
Mary Meyers and Elaine Simon were on the STA Zonals team that
captured 1st place in the Gold Division at the recent 14s
Zonals Championships in Huntsville, Alabama. They beat another
Southern team to win the title. Congratulations Mary and Elaine!

Garrett
Brasseaux wins Boys 16s Southern Closed
Without dropping a set, Garrett Brasseaux
of Covington, won the Boys 16s Southern Closed Championships in
Rome, Georgia. His championship title qualifies him for the second
consecutive year, for a spot on the STA Intersectional Team.
Garrett and his teammates claimed the Intersectional title for the
South last year!

REGULATIONS
A recent revision of the Junior
Ranking Regulations regarding the waiver policy for Junior
Qualifying was passed by the Executive Committee on 3/30/08.
See the addition to the current waiver policy: Junior Ranking
Regulations # 9, c which is bold and highlighted.
Louisiana had
two top finishers at the 14s Girls National Championships held
in March ’08. Finishing 4th was Mary Meyers from
Shreveport and in 5th place, Frances Altick from Monroe.
Congratulations to Mary and Frances on a great tournament!
2007 FINAL JUNIOR RANKINGS
Three
Louisiana Juniors finish on top at the 12s National Open held at the
YMCA in Baton Rouge, February 16-20.
Thomas Mayronne of Monroe, captured the 12s National Open
singles title held at the YMCA in Baton Rouge, February 16-20.
Thomas also reached the doubles semifinals, with partner Cameron
Andry.
Thomas was the 9th seed going into the tournament and
defeated the #1, 4, 2, and a fellow 9 seed on his way to the
championship. He defeated #2 seed David Parker, from Anderson,
S.C., 6-3, 6-1 in the finals. Thomas also reached the semifinals of
the doubles with his partner Cameron Andry, from Baton Rouge.
Congratulations Thomas on your singles championship and
congratulations to you and Cameron on your doubles play!
Brenna Keller of Mandeville had a great tournament before falling to
Courtney Williams of Birmingham in the finals of the backdraw.

Players, parents
and coaches please take time to read very carefully the 2008
Junior Ranking regulations that are posted on the junior page at
www.louisianatennis.com and in the 2008 yearbook. There are
several changes- both additions and deletions to the regulations
from last year. Please familiarize yourself with the ranking
regulations and check the website often, as changes to the
regulations made during the year will be posted online.
The Junior
Tennis Council is proud to announce and
congratulate the players that will represent Louisiana at upcoming
2008 Southern Junior Cup in Chattanooga in September. Player
selection was based on the specific criteria in the Louisiana
ranking regulations, #10.
