5 Questions with Drew Meyers - Wednesday, August 3, 2016
//5 questions with ... Drew Meyers//

WHO GOT YOU INTO TENNIS? It was a team effort. My father, William Meyers, introduced tennis to all six of his children. My mother, Lorraine, then drove her sweaty kids to tournaments across the
South.

WHAT’S THE MOST EXCITING TENNIS MATCH YOU’VE PLAYED OR SEEN? LSU vs. Georgia
– 1978.  At the time, Coach Dan Magill called it the biggest match in UGA Tennis history with the
winner going to the NCAA tourney. In front of over 5,000 rowdy Bulldog fans, the Fightin’ Tigers
took it 5-4. My contribution to the epic Tiger victory was losing both my singles and doubles
matches.

IF YOU COULD HAVE ONE TENNIS PRO’S SHOT, WHOSE WOULD IT BE? Hugh Thomson’s drop shot—the most psychologically devastating shot of all time. You know it’s coming, but "abandon all hope ye who enter here” for you have no chance even if you are standing on the service line expecting it.

WHAT’S YOUR SECOND MOST FAVORITE SPORT? Football, but only when LSU is winning.

WHAT IS THE BEST ADVICE YOU EVER RECEIVED? Before tennis matches, my parents would always say, "Don’t forget your sweatbands and keep your eye on the ball.” Translation: "Be prepared and stay focused.” I have found this to be great advice both on and off the court.
