Adult 70's Tournament Arkansas
It was an absolutely beautiful weekend for a 70's tournament
in Hot Springs, Arkansas this past weekend. There were a total of 29 teams with
3.5 and 4.0 70’s men and women, plus 3.0 women and then 5 pairs of 80’s
men.
The Baton Rouge Y Guys, Tim, Fred Anderson, Fred Guimond,
Skipper Morris, Bill Heise, Art Bonneval (N.O.) was one of 11 teams from around
the SE. There were three LA teams, one from Jackson, one from Memphis,
one from Tulsa, one from MO, one from Columbus, GA, and three from AR.
Baton Rouge won their flight of 6 teams and played for the Championship on
Sunday vs a team from Mt Home, AR. They got in by losing fewer games
after having tied on sets won. Baton Rouge was 5-1 before the final and
so were the teams from Jackson and Memphis.
At #1, Tim and Fred G won 6-3, 6-1, at #3, Skipper and
Art lost by about the same score and Baton Rouge team lost 6-4, 6-4 in a
winnable match. Both of the teammates from the Baton Rouge team missed a
few critical shots that, as is often the case, were the deciding points. Fred A
had left the day before thinking that we were out of the championship
match.
We had a good run and everyone got to feel the pressure of
playing in critical matches. The captain felt it most, something everyone
can probably relate to at one time or another.
