Allstate Sugar Bowl is a "Hit"! Message From Bill Ozaki - Monday, November 21, 2016

The All-State Sugar Bowl at City Park was one of the best tournaments I've attended over the past 30 years!  The support from the Sugar Bowl committee was tremendous and their affiliation gave the tournament instant city wide, state, and national recognition.

City Park is one of the finest tennis centers in the country.   Patti Todd and her staff provided an outstanding playing venue.  The satellite sites at the University of New Orleans Tennis Courts and Atkinson-Stern were also outstanding.

Many in attendance played in the former Sugar Bowl when it was last held.  These included Jeffrey Smith, Grady Wilson, Johnny McKinney, and current USTA Louisiana President Rob Worley, who spearheaded the effort to bring the All-State Sugar Bowl tennis tournament to fruition this year.  USTA Louisiana Executive Director Diana Beauregard, Director of Marketing Liz Metrailer and Bill Phillips, USTA Louisiana Tennis Service Representative, provided great support for tournament director Ashley Rhoney and referee Rocky Andry.

I believe that tradition and remembrance of the previous Sugar Bowls led academies from South Carolina and Georgia along with many top players to compete.  The competition was very strong with many players starting their collegiate careers soon and others who will contend for national junior titles in 2017.

We hope that not only the Allstate Sugar Bowl but also more Southern tournaments will be coming to City Park and New Orleans in the near future.
