Comeaux High School Courts Refurbished and Converted

The two tennis courts at Comeaux High School in Lafayette sat for years in terrible shape and disrepair. Now, thanks to a grant from the United States Tennis Association along with additional funding from the Louisiana Tennis Association and the Acadiana Tennis Association, the facility has been completely refurbished and will be a viable center for 10 and Under programming and adult receational play. The two courts have been completely resurfaced - one full sized court with blended lines for both adult and 10 and under play and the other converted to four 36 foot courts for 8 and under youth play, reflective of the recent USTA rule change for youth tennis competitionregarding court size, ball type, racquet length, etc. These arefirstfour public regulation 36 foot courts to be built in Louisiana. The Acadiana Tennis Assocation, in cooperation with Comeaux High School and the Lafayette Parish School System, will now offer 10 and under youth programs as well as adult grass roots programs.

A ribbon cutting ceremony took place on Monday, October 8th at 5:30 pm to formally reopen the facility and the publicwas cordially invited to attend. Andrew Meyers, President of USTA Louisiana also attended the event and had this to say about this great accomplishment, "This project was conceived, planned, implemented, and completed due to Bill Phillips' tireless efforts. He was able to bring together the Lafayette Parish School Board, Comeaux High School, the USTA, and the Acadiana Community Tennis Association to completely refurbish these courts. The neighborhood and especially the children, are the beneficiaries of Bill's efforts. Louisiana Tennis is lucky to have Bill as our Tennis Service Representative."
