LOUISIANA LEADS WITH FIVE CHAMPIONS, FOUR FINALISTS

Mobile, AL – March 5, 2012 USTA Southern crowned 22 champions during the 2011 Combo Doubles Southern Section Championships presented by MINI March 2-5 in Mobile, Ala. This tournament is recognized as the largest tournament in the world by player count with about 1,900 players.

Louisiana led the section's nine states with five champions and four finalists. North Carolina and South Carolina had three champions and three finalists. Tennessee had three champions and two finalists. Three cities had two champions: Charlotte, N.C.; Mandeville/Covington, La. and Memphis, Tenn.

There were about 195 teams that played in the following number of divisions: five men's Adults, six women's Adults, three men's and women's Seniors, two men's Super Seniors and three women's Super Seniors.

Matches were played at Copeland-Cox Mobile Tennis Center (host site), Heron Lake Country Club, Medal of Honor/Cottage Hill Park, Mirror Lake Racquet Club and Oakwood Swim & Racquet Club.

In Combo Doubles, the two teammates on court must have a combined National Tennis Rating Program (NTRP) rating that does not exceed the level in which the team competes. More information can be found on the tournament's website, www.southerncombo.com. This is the 2011 tournament because teams qualified in local play last year.
