Mike's 10 and Under QuickStart Clinic
In honor of USTA Southern President, Mike McNulty's 60th birthday, USTA Louisiana, Mary McNulty, Lake Charles Racquet Club and Lake Charles CTA hosted a day full of QuickStart events.  The day started with 49 children participating in a kid's 10 and Under QuickStart Clinic. Bill Phillips, Louisiana's Tennis Service Representative lead a star list of volunteers who helped with the 10 and Under clinic. Mike McNulty, Lane McNulty, Bobby Walker, Diana Beauregard, Rob Klemm, Anne Kratzer and some local junior tennis players were a part of that star list. All children received a goody bag filled with a t-shirt, tennis activity book, crayons and a 10 and Under tattoo. Many children signed up for the free USTA 10 and Under membership. After the clinic the children enjoyed playing on a giant inflatable waterslide, ate hotdogs and birthday cupcakes.
The festivities continued with an adult QuickStart Tournament.  Eighteen adult friends of Mike, including three of his grown sons, and three of his law partners, competed on the 36 foot court. They used the red transition balls and twenty three inch racquets. The competition was fierce. There were four divisions with a winner in each division to comprise the semi-finalists. In the end Mike came out victorious defeating his son Michael in the final in two straight seven point tie-breakers. Mike has vowed to hold this tournament at his eightieth and hundredth birthdays and defend his title both times.
